Well said Tina. You are spot on about changing your mindset about money and dealing with people who don’t “get” marketing.
If I were to add anything it would be this… “Don’t think of your fee as a ‘large check for just writing a letter’ but instead think of it as a (low) prepaid commission for helping your client get a LOT more money than they are giving you.”
I believe copywriters shouldn’t think of themselves as Sales Letter Writers. They should think of themselves as Revenue Generators. Nothing happens until someone sells something. The copywriter is that person. In my opinion, the most important person in the loop.
Bottom line, they totally DESERVE the big checks. And if they don’t have a rev-share agreement, they screwed up the contract negotiation.
Tina
Thanks for your comments Peter–and you are right–it is much more than “pushing words around on a page”–it’s all about that marketing core to everything you write, your relationships with your clients and your customer–and how you THINK about everything you have to offer. It’s something that needs “flexing” every day–and it can turn things around incredibly quickly when you get your mind, heart, and soul working FOR you, not against you.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. You’re completely right about the money mindsent. I left “corporate America” a little over a year ago — and much to the surprise of all my lawyer (former) co-workers, I’m doing just fine as a self-employed person. The money mindset is key. I started with a couple of profit centers (some legal contract work, as well as a couple of musical products, as noted on my website). I intend to add copywriting soon.
The best thing about this new life I’m creating? I NEVER work five days a week. I NEVER put in “lawyer-long” days anymore. Hooray!!
Thanks for the reminder!

Tina
Hey Lynda, congratulations! I’m excited that you are following your heart and finding it rewarding. Definitely Hooray!
Great video Tina! You’re spot on about mindset, and you’ve helped me through the years to “believe in my value.” No one says it as well as you, and I hope we get you back into coaching!
PS – I recently bought an RV and thought of the fun you and your husband rolling around the country. But why didn’t you mention how expensive the damn thing is?!
Tina
Hi Stacey, I’m so glad to hear you are still moving forward. And now you have an RV? Yep, kind of spendy but soooo much fun!
You hope I get back to coaching? Hmmm. Just might be that your wish will soon be fulfilled.
Kind of late but I wish I were in the position of having to turn away work. I find it so frustrating when I respond to job listings for copywriters and get no respond. I don’t know how much tweaking my mindset will help me connect with potential clients.
Tina
Hi Francis, thanks for writing. I hear your pain. The first thing I would say is you need to start looking for other ways to connect with potential clients than responding to job listings. I’ll definitely add some Marketing Minute videos addressing this issue for you. I’ve just been at two different events that were bursting with people who need copywriters. So there IS work out there.
There’s problem with the video? [S3VIDEO file='videos/mindset.mov' width='480' height='360']

Hi again Steven. The reason you got the “Members Only” message is because the rest of the site is just that–for members only. Since you have signed up as a subscriber, you will definitely be in the loop when my copywriting program is available again. Thanks for your interest!

Hi Tina,
Steve here, the guy who lived in Japan and now living back in the UK.
I’ve been checking this site on and off, but there didn’t seem to be much going on, and now it seems to have come back to life. Good to see the videos on here.
Hope you are well.

admin
Hi Steve, of course I remember you!
I hope you weren’t in Japan during the earthquake–but if you were, thank goodness you are alive and well.
Everything is great here–I’m so happy to hear from you.
Thanks Tina, it’s been my biggest challenge so far. Can provide massive benefit and income generation for others, but get totally stuck asking for something in return.
Trying to re-frame it as fair exchange of value for me providing a service they won’t survive with otherwise. Slowly getting there. And approaching with JV offers is easier too, and possibly more profitable in the long run. That way if I don’t provide the value I believe I can, then I don’t get paid. If I do provide the value, then I get paid really well.
admin
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for your honesty about this challenge. It’s been my
experience that it is a common challenge, so you’re certainly
not alone.
You’re on the right track by reframing your “old thinking” into
a new, value-based mindset. So just keep going! It will get
easier over time as you see the results of your efforts.
To your success,
Tina

Great message, Tina. Really inspiring – thanks for baring it all (emotionally!)
admin
Hey Len, thanks very much. It makes
me happy when others are inspired
by what I’ve learned along the way.
Thank you Tina. Your words inspire me alot. I am kind of thinking myself not able to success. And it seems to me that I put a lot of road blocks in front of me just not to let me go. I just fear.
I know that it is my job to breakthrough it, thank you Tina.
admin
Hi Ellery,
I think the first step is just recognizing the fact that this is
your challenge–and then continuing to move forward.
Really, when you stop and think about it, what’s the worst that
can happen? We all stumble and fall once in a while–but if you
get back up and keep pushing on, you WILL overcome those
obstacles in your path.
I wish you all success,
Tina

One of the best messages I have ever heard, at just the right time. Your speech was in a straight-up style, and from the heart. THANK YOU.

Well said thank you for confirmation of truth.
I appreciate the answers for few questions:
Is what you teach in your program in English can be easily applied to writting copy in different language?
Are you teaching in your program about applying it to video sales letter – I did course of writing video sales letters.
What is the difference if I may ask between what you teach in authentic copywriting and video sales letter formula and video scripts for product lanches?
admin
Hi Agnes,
You are very welcome for the “confirmation of truth”–that
really resonates with me so thank YOU for that.
Now let’s take a look at your questions…
There is a very hot trend right now to translate copy into other
languages–so your question is spot on.
The elements of copy can definitely be translated into other
languages–in fact they already are. Of course depending
on the culture, there may be certain nuances that might
need to be tweaked by someone who is well acquainted with
that particular culture.
But overall, all the elements should translate very well,
and may in fact even be a refreshing new approach for
certain cultural norms in marketing.
Re: video scripts–there are some differences, such as you
may streamline even more for a verbal script. But overall,
the way I teach and write copy, it has been my experience that
the copy can be “morphed” into a video script very well too.
The crux of all of this is understanding how to be conversational
and “real” in your copy–without losing the energy or the
marketing core that has to support everything in your marketing
funnel.
I go into this much more in the Velocity program, which is my coaching
program that works hand in hand with the Interactive copywriting
program as the foundation.
I hope this answers your questions. Please let me know if I
can be of further assistance to you.
All the best,
Tina

Thank you Tina for sharing important truths that keep most of us stuck at some level or other
.
Here is a very effective quick technique i discovered to move you through this stage of resistance.
Imagine yourself as you would like to be, (or a situation or object) sitting in front of you.
Then ask yourself what’s preventing you unconditionally loving and empathising with them / it totally.
You will feel the resistance surface as emotions or sensations in your body.
Then you can use your clearing method of choice, such as EFT, Ho oponopono, etc. I like to adress the sensation sying to myself “how do I know this?” or just agree to lovingly accept it.
This has the miraculous effect of just dissolving the discomfort, and as you repeat the process you see the image becoming larger, clearer until it eventually merges with you and you feel lighter and deeply contented.
Repeat the process as you feel you need. It’s the fastest breakthrough technique I know.
Love to all.

Thanks for sharing those empowering insights Tina. They are especially timely as this year draws to a close and we reflect on what we have achieved, and where we came up short.
Despite what the Merovingian said in the Matrix, your brief talk reminds me that everything begins with a decision that can change our destiny.
I forget who said it, but we need to lose our ‘minds’ and come to our senses.

Thanks Stew–I definitely feel like I’m losing my mind sometimes
